DJIBRIL AYOFE
Founder/ Director

My name is Djibril. I come from Ivory Coast and I have been living in the UK for 8 years. I have loved football since I was a little boy and usually play twice a week out in the community, where I often make new friends or welcome new people to our open sessions in Clapham Common. I am also passionate about being creative, thinking outside the box, and I am currently studying Graphic Design at the University of Greenwich.

I am the Founder of I Speak Football. We have been running I Speak Football for 5 years and I started the project football because of my own struggles to learn English. I found it hard to concentrate, and sitting in a classroom for many hours is very tough. I had a good teacher but I found a lot of lessons boring and I didn’t have any help when we left the school. Out of my window, I could see other young people playing football- I wanted to be there!

I knew English was important, but the lessons were hard for me. I wanted to learn more and speak more, but also be more active. It was easier for me when I was on the football pitch and talking to other migrants, we used English more. I became the captain of our football team on the weekend, but I was still struggling in school: So were many of the other migrants in the football team. We talked about getting English support as a team, and this is where the idea came from for “I Speak Football”.

I want to run a business to continue my love of football, but also to make English and other languages more accessible to other learners. I didn’t want to see any other person have the same difficult journey as I did. I believe participants have found the projects fun and easy to engage with partly because they feel comfortable knowing that I have been through a similar experience to them.

Mentorship

Supporting sports4development practitioners in their journey towards greater impact. If you have someone in your organisation who has potential to grow, set them up with our bespoke mentoring or coaching programme.

Strategic Management Support

A project is a means to achieve your organisation's mission. But what is your mission, values and goals? How do you measure success? How do your prioritise which goals and which tasks to create real impact. How do you recruit people that will support your aims and add value? The Sports Effect works with organisations in a full strategic review to help them create an organisation that responds to the needs of the community, and responds to donor’s needs, to create a sustainable approach to achieving their impact.

Impact Evaluation

Beyond the individual project, good S4D programmes create ripples of change. But how do we know? Through impact evaluations that measure before, during and after programmes, and measure metrics to show real change beyond the individual and beyond the life of the programme.

Grant Review

For those organisations who want their funds to deliver real change on the ground, The Sports Effect will gladly support their review process, making sure they create accountable, transparent and fair grants review processes. These processes in turn allow funds to be secure in knowing they are choosing the best candidates that have the best chance of creating transformative programmes.

Monitoring and Evaluation

If it can’t be measured it shouldn’t be done. The S4D sector must take greater responsibility for monitoring and evaluation. The Sports Effect has toolkits, expertise and training to make sure that clubs of any size can perform their monitoring. This monitoring leads to learning and learning leads to greater impact.
